In December 2009, a ceremony was held in London to mark the opening of a new railway. Class 395 railcars built and supplied by Hitachi were the focus of this ceremony attended by British Government officials including the Prime Minister, the Transport Secretary and people connected with the project from the UK and Japan. The Class 395s were the first high speed railcars in the UK, the country where railways originally evolved. Currently it is estimated that there are about 110 million antipersonnel landmines in place around the world.Kiyoshi Amemiya, President of Yamanashi Hitachi Construction Machinery Company has established a landmine clearance project to try to improve on the present situation where many civilians, especially children, become victims of these mines.
